 A 40-Year Dream… Finally in Motion
If you had told 19-year-old me — undergrad in kinesiology, newly fascinated with strength training, and a fan of Gladys Portugues’ Hard Bodies — that I’d be training for a bodybuilding competition at age 58, she’d be impressed… and maybe a little surprised. 😉 But here I am. Four weeks into prep for my very first fitness competition this August. After years of yo-yo dieting and staying in “good enough” shape, I finally said enough. In 2023, I started working with a bodybuilding coach and learned how different it feels to train and eat like an athlete. It’s not about chasing skinny. It’s about building strength. Confidence. Grit. I’m competing in the new Fit Model division, and while I’m still a work in progress, I’ve never felt more aligned with my mission: to live fully, lead boldly, and show others it’s never too late to go after the thing that lights you up.
