I have an old Nike poster hanging in my exercise room that says “There is no finish line” and I’ve always loved that saying.
I don’t exercise or do any of my other healthy habits to “get” somewhere or to race someone else. I make a decision every day that this is how I’m going to live my life and I have no intention of stopping. I’m not waiting until I get to a certain weight or achieve a certain goal to say, “I’m there; I’m done”.
Who are you competing with? I hope the answer is nobody! Or, maybe you are competing with yourself and that’s ok! Short term goals can be very helpful but I encourage you to look beyond them. I often help my clients make short term goals that are stepping stones to their longer-term goals and their overall wellness vision. Have you thought about your wellness vision? When you close your eyes and picture the habits and characteristics of your ideal healthy and self-satisfied life, what do you see? How do you feel? What fills your day?
What small changes are realistic for you to make today TODAY that you can still see yourself doing a year from now that will bring you closer to that vision? There is nothing stopping you! Why not get to it!?
